The 20 friendliest places on the planet have been named – and it’s Perthshire in Scotland which is the No.1 region and the Brazilian town of Arraial d’Ajuda, famous for its azure beaches, which is the top destination.
The list was compiled by Booking.com, with entries identified based on the number of Traveler Review Awards each has.
Follow Arraial d’Ajuda in the list of destinations are Ermoupoli, Greece (second); Viana do Castelo, Portugal (third); Daylesford, Australia (fourth); and Grindelwald, Switzerland (fifth).
The highest-ranked U.S. region is Moab, Utah. The city – renowned for its cinematic and rocky natural beauty – comes sixth on the list of destinations.

Penghu, Taiwan, ranked second most welcoming region
Boyaca, Colombia, is the third most welcoming region in the world
Speaking about Perthshire’s crown as the most welcoming region, Perth and Kinross Council Leader Grant Laing said: “Being recognized as one of the world’s most welcoming destinations in 2024 is a huge accolade and shows that the hospitality in Perth and Kinross is second to none.
“We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty and welcome visitors from all over the world each year. We have successfully hosted world-renowned events like the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup and last year we hosted thousands of participants for the Gran Fondo, as part of the UCI World Championships.
“In March, Perth Museum will open its doors to the public for the first time. The new home of the Stone of Destiny will attract thousands more visitors to the region and I’m sure they will all discover plenty to love about Perth and Kinross when they arrive here.
Trentino – Alto Adige, Italy, has been ranked the fourth most welcoming region in the world.
Moab, Utah is the sixth most welcoming destination in the world
Booking.com said it based its awards on more than 309 million verified customer reviews, which rate the hospitality, service and standards of travel accommodations, activities and transport providers.
Only customers who have stayed in accommodation, rented a car or taken a taxi can leave a review about their experience on Booking.com.
