Republican senator blasts Trump with simple advice

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) calls Donald Trump not to be “ignorant” after the former president tore up a bipartisan border security bill being negotiated in the Senate.

Asset, in a speech in Nevada on Saturdaysaid there was “zero chance” he would support what he described as “this horrible betrayal of America through open borders.”

“That’s not going to happen. And I will fight to the end. I noticed that a lot of senators were trying to say, respectfully, that they put the blame on me. I say, it’s okay, if he Please, blame me. Please,” he spoke about efforts to defeat the bill.

Cassidy, in an interview with CNN Manu Rajuquestioned whether Trump had access to the bill.

“That doesn’t seem to be the case,” Raju replied.

“It hasn’t come out, how does he know it’s treason if he hasn’t read it?” Cassidy said, then offered free advice to the ex-president.

“I mean, don’t be ignorant,” he said. “Read the bill. »

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), when asked about Trump’s characterization, said it was “certainly not a betrayal.”

“We need to be able to deal with legal issues. This is how we deal with things in America,” said Lankford, the GOP’s lead negotiator.

The two senators’ comments come a day after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told Raju it was “absurd” when asked if he was trying to defeat a bipartisan border security bill to help Trump in his presidential campaign.
