Record US Women’s Open purse reaches US$12 million after USGA secures new sponsor


The US Women’s Open, already the largest purse in women’s golf, is receiving a US$12 million boost thanks to a new corporate partnership with Ally Financial.

The agreement makes Ally the title sponsor of the US Women’s Open and the official retail banking partner of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the men’s and women’s Opens it hosts.

“Partnering with Ally allows us to not only continue to elevate the U.S. Women’s Open, but also strengthen our commitment to the future of the game through our U.S. National Development Program,” said Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA . “Ally has established herself as a force in sports, with a passion for equity across the industry. Her brand values ​​and actions align perfectly with ours, and I can’t wait to see what we can do together.”

Ally also signed a sponsorship deal with Lilia Vu, last year’s two-time major champion and LPGA Player of the Year.

Ally is already the title sponsor of a PGA Tour Champions event in Warwick Hills, Michigan.

The U.S. Women’s Open achieved the first big spike in women’s golf by increasing its purse to $10 million in 2022, with ProMedica as the title sponsor. This agreement has ended and the USGA now has Ally as a partner.

The Women’s Open was held last year at Pebble Beach for the first time. It will be held this year at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, and future venues include Riviera and Oakmont.

Stephanie Marciano, head of sports marketing at Ally, described golf as experiencing a “meteoric rise” with an increasingly diverse fan base.
