The 20 best European cities for solo travelers have been revealed – and Rhodes in Greece at the top of the list.

It was produced by a Wizz Air study, in which researchers ranked cities based on Tripadvisor reviews – specifically for restaurants and attractions in each destination – marked “single travelers” in 2023.

The budget airline then calculated the percentage of five-star reviews for each city and ranked them accordingly, she explains.. This process involved selecting only the highest-rated city from each country to ensure that each country was only represented once on the list.

In first place is the Greek town of Rhodes, which saw 76 percent of its solo traveler reviews rated five stars, according to the Wizz Air study.

Among them, the city’s attractions received the majority of five-star reviews (79 percent), and 73 percent of the city’s restaurants earned perfect scores.

Second place is Split, with 73% of solo travel reviews awarded five stars.

Attractions in the Croatian city received the highest number of five-star reviews (81%), followed by restaurant reviews with 66%, the report reveals.

The city, located in the Algarve region, received the majority of its five-star reviews for its attractions (74%). Fifty-nine percent of restaurants received top marks.

Tied with Faro is the Turkish city of Istanbul, also with an overall five-star rating of 67 percent.

Restaurants performed the best, with 71 percent of them earning perfect scores.

Florence, Italy rounds out the top five, with 66% of solo traveler reviews at the five-star level.

Attractions garnered the majority of five-star reviews (71 percent), with 61 percent of restaurants earning five-star reviews.

In fifth place and sixth destination in the ranking is London, where 63% of solo travel reviews gave it five stars.

“Overall, 63 percent of the English city’s reviews for solo travel were five stars, highlighting what a great option the destination is for solo travel,” Wizz Air said. In total, 74 per cent of the British capital’s attractions received five-star reviews, while 51 per cent of restaurants achieved top marks.

Overall, 62 percent of Icelandic city reviews for solo travel were five stars.

Here, 59% of solo travelers left five-star reviews. The split between attractions and restaurants was 66 percent and 51 percent.

Varna ranks ninth thanks to 58 percent of its reviews being five stars. The split between attractions and restaurants was 63 percent and 53 percent.

The Latvian capital, Riga, came ninth with an identical overall score of 58 percent to Varna. The split between attractions and restaurants was 60 percent and 56 percent.

10= Bruges, Belgium

For Bruges, which tied for tenth place, 57 percent of solo travel reviews were five stars. The split between attractions and restaurants was 62.5 percent and 51 percent.

The Lithuanian city of Kaunas also shares last place in the ranking, with 57% of reviews rated five stars. The split between attractions and restaurants was 51 percent and 63 percent.

10= Krakow, Poland

The third city in tenth place is Krakow, with an overall score of 57 percent and a split between attractions and restaurants of 56 percent and 57 percent.

11. Bucharest, Romania

Bucharest, ranked the eleventh best city for solo travelers, has an overall five-star rating of 55, with 56 percent of attractions awarded five stars and 54 percent of restaurants.

Prague ranks twelfth on the list. Numbers? It has an overall five-star rating of 54, with attractions and restaurants almost neck and neck – 53 percent and 54 percent respectively.

The capital of Hungary ranks 12th, the same as Prague. Overall, 54 percent of reviews received a five-star rating. The distribution between attractions and restaurants? Fifty-one percent and 57 percent.

12= Rosendaal, Netherlands

The Dutch town of Roosendaal also ranks 12th, with 54 percent of five-star reviews. Attractions here (60 percent) have had greater critical acclaim than restaurants (48 percent).

“One of the most reliable ways for travelers to gain insight into the realities of traveling to a destination is to see the experiences of other travelers who have already been there. That’s why we know the importance of basing our rankings on reviews left by previous travelers. -travelers to ensure these cities have the most to offer those heading out on their own.

The list of cities ranked in the Wizz Air report was compiled based on Euromonitor’s top 100 cities in 2019, the Europa list of cultural and tourist cities and Holidu magazine’s list of the most touristy European cities.

The study has not been officially approved by Tripadvisor.
